We’re back with another topics series! Join us for an exploration of five new topics relating to traditional Ozark folk magic and healing. Topics include using sigils and symbols in your craft, building home altars and shrines, Mother Goose’s spells and charms, magical materia, and fairy curses.
This class series is taught by sixth-generation Ozark folklorist and author Brandon Weston of Ozark Healing Traditions and is great for beginners and seasoned practitioners from any and all traditions.
Sigils & Symbols in the Craft

A hands-on workshop on formulating and using sigils as part of your magical practice. A sigil is a magical shape or symbol used to hold a specific magical goal or intention. We’ll take a look at specific sigils and symbols that have been long used in magic since ancient history as well as learn a few simple processes for quickly creating your own unique sigils for any type of magical work.
Using Magical Altars & Shrines

Creating, maintaining, and using home shrines and altars as part of your own magical or spiritual practice. We’ll look at deity/saint altars, ancestral shrines, and shrines for house spirits, as well as “working shrines,” created for specific magical work for a limited duration. Shrine making is a creative way to empower your magical work, whether you’re a beginner or seasoned practitioner.
Mother Goose’s Magic: The Power of Fairytales

Few people know how many of Mother Goose’s nursery rhymes have been used by practitioners as magical charms over the centuries. Many of these might have originated as charms to begin with! In this class we’ll explore how the fairytales and rhymes of childhood can still teach us lessons of magical protection, cleansing, prosperity, and even retribution.
Dirts, Powders, & Oils

For Ozark granny women, healers, and magical practitioners the world is filled with ingredients just waiting to be used in our practice. In this class we’ll take a look at a variety of magical dirts, powders, and oils, including foot-track, bank, and graveyard dirt as well as protection powders, justice oils, and even how to consecrate all of these to your own intentions.
Fairy Magic & Curses

For Ozarkers, the invisible world of spirits, fairies, and the Little People is seen as a source of powerful magic as well as some serious curses. In this class we’ll explore the world of fairy trickery, how healers have traditionally formed pacts with useful spirits, a “rainbow” of curses, and of course how
to cure them.
