Retribution Magic Series Bundle

Cursing has long been controversial in the Ozarks as well as in the wider magical community. Yet amongst Ozark healers and practitioners themselves, retribution magic has gone right alongside other more common practices like protection work, love spells, and good luck charms. Retribution work at its heart is a cleansing act, but one that seeks to "return to sender" any hexes and other malign work that might have been put onto a person. In this class, we'll look at the place of curses and hexes in the Ozarks and how practitioners here have traditionally justified these taboo acts.
This class series is taught by Ozark folklorist and writer Brandon Weston of Ozark Healing Traditions and is great for beginners as well as seasoned practitioners from any and all traditions.

Retribution Magic: Theory and Practice

Working from a basis in Ozark folk magic and healing theory, we begin our series looking at what a curse is, how they are formed, and traditional cleansing methods to remove them. We’ll also look at the role of the Ozark healer in the process and how these individuals have walked the line between magic that was acceptable and magic that was condemned.
Retribution Magic: Fire Element

Element of destruction and release. The active element of Fire is the most popular to use in Ozark retribution magic. In this class, we’ll explore rituals of burning and heating including roasting an enemy over hot coals and breaking the power of a malicious foe through sparking an illusory explosion.
Retribution Magic: Air Element

Element of energy and movement. The active element of Air is used in Ozark retribution magic to disperse energies. In this class, we’ll explore rituals of wind and smoke including breaking apart an enemy’s power and throwing it into the seven winds and smoldering a slanderer alongside sacred incense.
Retribution Magic: Water Element

Element of cleansing and clearing. The active element of Water is used in Ozark washing rituals where it’s used to carry away curses. In this class, we’ll explore retribution rituals of river and waterfall, looking specifically at work to get our enemies to move away from us or to send their power downriver with the current.
Retribution Magic: Earth Element

Element of stability and burial. The passive element of Earth is used in Ozark retribution magic to bury and neutralize energies. In this class, we’ll explore rituals of stone and dirt including burying the power of an enemy in a graveyard and making use of our powerful tree allies to help us remove and nullify curse work.
