Ozark Folk Magic Topics Series Bundle
Discounted bundle for all classes in the Ozark Folk Magic Topics series, Spring 2026. All five classes for the price of four.
Practitioners can often get overwhelmed by all of the different traditions and methods available to us today. In this course, we’ll look at five important topics common to many folk traditions: amulets, candles, defense against the dark arts, string, and magic of the hearth and home. These methods and traditions will be taught from an Ozark perspective but with the understanding that these traditions are open to anyone who might want to deepen their own practice.
This class series is taught by Ozark folklorist and writer Brandon Weston of Ozark Healing Traditions and is great for beginners as well as seasoned practitioners from any and all traditions.
Live attendance is not required. Ticket holders will receive unlimited video recording access 3-5 days after the live event.
Amulets, Curios, & Talismans

A workshop on crafting and using amulets and talismans as part of your magical practice. We’ll explore traditional Ozark “charm bags” for protection and prosperity. We’ll also look at curio objects like whole roots, nuts, and animal parts that are held and carried as natural amulets.
Candle & Lamp Magic

A workshop on using candles and lamps as part of your practice. Some topics covered include: color and shape symbolism, "dressing" your candles using oils and herbs, working with oil lamps, and using candles without fire.
Defense Against the Dark Arts

An exploration of magical protection against all those things that go bump in the night. We'll look at traditions of spirit-detection, methods of magical exorcism, and wearable amulet wards.
The Wonderworking Powers of String

A look at the mighty, wonderworking powers of ordinary household string. This often overlooked item has been used by healers and practitioners since ancient days for everything from creating blessed amulets, catching and destroying curses, and even setting magical traps for bothersome spirits.
Magic of Hearth & Home

Let’s gather together around the hearth or the “heart” of the home, the magical center of our lives and practices. In this class, we’ll look at the magic of the home itself, from cleansing and clearing practices, to feasting traditions, to maintaining good relationships with protective spirits of the home and our ancestors.
